Aegean

Origin And History The Aegean cat, as its name suggests, originates from the Cycladic Islands in the Aegean Sea, where they occur as a natural landrace. Aegean's are considered one of the oldest domesticated cat breeds. They are common as feral cats in Greece, where they are found amongst fishing ports begging for food. In Greece, Aegean cats are considered a national treasure.
Personality When it comes to entering a new home, the Aegean Cat does not adjust fast. Do not be surprised if it does not act normal for a while after a move, or when it is first brought home. This cat breed goes out of its way meet new people. Owners find it very cute that the cat will interrupt whatever it is doing to greet new visitors at the door. Owners that enjoy interacting with their cat a few times a week will enjoy this cat breed. The Aegean Cat can keep itself entertained in between quality time sessions with its owner. Bringing the Aegean Cat to a home with children will bring the animal great joy. This cat loves children and their playful actions! The Aegean Cat loves to be around dogs! So much so, that it could be said that the cat sees the dogs as family! The Aegean Cat really enjoys snuggling and showing affection. Owners get plenty of love from this cat! This cat breed loves to play so much that it will often wake its owner up, at the start of each day, for playtime. The high energy level of the Aegean Cat breed makes them a very fun playmate for owners that love to play with their pets. This cat breed does not make bad decisions very often. This is because they are slightly more intelligent than other cat breeds.

Physical Attributes

Appearance The Aegean Cat has been known for its medium size and this has been a deciding factor for many owners of this breed. Its build is best described as muscular, thin, and sleek. Because the Aegean Cat breed is a medium sized cat breed it often weighs between 9 lbs (4 kg)to 10 lbs (4.5 kg). This cat would fit well in a medium sized home! With its outer layer often described as multicolored, soft, and light; The Aegean Cat is truly a marvelous creature with its own refined beauty. Their fur (or skin) may come in colours such as bicolour or tricolour, black, red, blue, cream, and with/without tabby striping; which can make them very unique among their peers. Most Aegean Cats have a short length tail, which helps compliment their overall body structure. Their small sized eyes, that are common among the Aegean Cat breed, create a unique look that their owners find adorable.
Health This cat breed may have some health problems, but it is rare that they occur. Health issues are common among domesticated animals. This cat breed may be susceptible to Eye Problems, Fleas, and Diarrhea. Allergic reactions are not common, but may occur in people with cat allergies that come near the Aegean Cat breed.
