Southern Baja Gopher Snake

Place of Origin and Range Found in La Paz, Baja California and south to the tip of Baja peninsula.
Description A single cape gopher snake can exhibit wild colour and pattern variations along the length of its body. Most begin with bright H-shaped marks in differing orange shades against an intense yellow background. As you trace the patterns down toward the tip of the tail, they begin to change in shape and darken until they are completely black while the yellow background loses its intensity. Other cape gopher snakes' patterns begin as black stripes before evenly transforming into the familiar marks of other gopher snake species.
Morph Patterns Available Yes
Adult Size Can grow 4-5 feet (1.2-1.5m)
Accommodation Southern Baja Gopher snakes are found in open grasslands, dry savannah or scrub in the wild,. These snakes are burrowers. They will require a a bathing dish large enough for the snake to soak in. Also include a day time heat lamp or under tank heat. Keep it at 80'F(27'C) in that spot. Branches the same thickness as the snake can be placed in before substrate to prevent injury to your snake when burrowing. 2 x 2 x 3 ft for an adult.
Lifespan Can live 15-20 years
Feeding / Diet The Southern Baja Gopher snake's prey is thought to include many small rodents, birds, and eggs, though there really is no certainty due to a lack of research of these snakes in the wild. These snakes typically eat mice.
Other Considerations Snakes are relatively hardy low maintenance animals when kept in the correct environment, and require little day to day care other than feeding and cleaning out the tank as required. However, like all animals, they can still become sick or injured despite our best intentions to prevent this.
