Description | These monitors have a myriad of light spots against tan, brown or reddish dorsal colour, and a light belly with facial stripes. The spines on the tail are arranged in length wise ridges. |

Accommodation | These monitors live in rocky habitat. Be sure to secure any rocks in the cage before adding substrate to prevent injury to your monitor from being crushed by shifting rocks. They require large enclosures, temperatures above 60 °F (16 °C). Include a water dish and plenty of hiding spots. |

Breeding | In captivity, a clutch consists of up to 18 eggs. The young hatch after three to five months of incubation, and measure 15 cm. The knowledge on reproduction in the wild is sparse. Males most likely mature at 12 cm snout-vent length, females mature at 10–14 cm snout-vent length. Ovulation occurs in August and November. The eggs are deposited in self-dug tunnels. |
