Burmese pony

Country Of Origin Burma
History and Background Also called the Shan pony, the Burmese pony isn’t a particularly refined breed, however their adaptability and ability to function on difficult terrain makes them well liked in the mountainous regions.
This breed is native to the Shan state of Eastern Burma and bred by the local tribes there. They are similar in confirmation to Bhutia, Spiti and Manipuri ponies who all have ties to the Mongolian and Arabian horses. Although they may carry the influence of many different Eastern breeds.
Due to their mountain habitat, they are very sure footed, reliable and able to survive in a harsh environment.
Use Today Pack pony, Riding pony, Mountain trekking
Height 13 hands high (52 inches, 133 centimeters)
Colour Bay, Black, Chestnut, Grey
Characteristics Burmese ponies may reach 13 hands (52 inches, 132 cm), and are brown, bay, chestnut, black or gray in color. They are not particularly pretty horses, having been bred for function rather than looks. The head usually has a straight profile, the neck is muscular. The back may be long, and the croup is sloping. The ponies do not have very pronounced withers, and a rather upright shoulder, creating a short stride (which is desirable in mountainous terrain, even if considered a fault in a riding horse). The chest is deep and wide, the hooves small and hard, and the legs are fine, yet strong.

Personality and Temperament Quiet and willing, good for kids and beginners.
