Budgerigar

Origin	Budgerigars are nomadic birds found in open habitats, primarily in scrublands, open woodlands, and grasslands of Australia.
Size	This species can grow up to 8 in(20 cm)
Colours	Budgerigars are naturally green and yellow with black, scalloped markings on the nape, back, and wings, but have been bred in captivity with colouring in blues, whites, yellows, greys, and even with small crests.
Lifespan	Can live 15+ years
Noise	Moderate, a very good mimic.
Characteristics	This species displays a light green body colour (abdomen and rumps), while their mantles (back and wing coverts) display pitch-black mantle markings (blackish in fledgelings and immatures) edged in clear yellow undulations. The forehead and face is yellow in adults but with blackish stripes down to the cere (nose) in young individuals until they change into their adult plumage around three to four months of age. They display small, purple cheek patches and a series of three black spots across each side of their throats (called throat spots). The two outermost throat spots are situated at the base of each cheek patch. The tail is cobalt (dark-blue); and outside tail feathers display central yellow flashes. Their wings have greenish-black flight feathers and black coverts with yellow fringes along with central yellow flashes, which only become visible in flight or when the wings are outstretched. Bills are olive grey and legs blueish-grey
Abilities	Budgerigars are well known for their ability to mimic human conversation. These are a champion species of mimicry. Some birds have been known to hold onto 500+ words. Most are willing to show their abilities in front of strangers, unlike most Parrots which can be a little shy.
Interaction/Time Requirements, Diet, Supplies Needed	A minimum of 12 inches long, 14 inches wide, and 15 inches high. Space is important and indoor cages should be as large as possible. A large cage is required even if the bird is going to spend lots of time out of its habitat with you. Aviaries are sold ready for home assembly. Most are a rectangular design, with a mesh covered flight, and smaller shelter area, in which the birds are fed and can take shelter from the bad weather. They require a warm habitat for the winter months. Do not allow your birds outdoors until all signs of frost are gone. They eat a foreign finch seed mixture that contains various millets and other small seeds such as niger. You need to change food and water twice daily, and clean the cage at least once a day, replacing toys and broken climbing branches.
Other Considerations	Budgerigars are popular pets around the world due to their small size, low cost, and ability to mimic human speech. The origin of the budgerigar's name is unclear.
