Red Billed Toucan

Origin The Red Billed Toucan is found throughout the Amazon in south-eastern Colombia, eastern Ecuador, eastern Peru, northern Bolivia, southern and eastern Venezuela, northern and western Brazil, including the Amazon Basin's adjacent Tocantins-Araguaia River drainage, and the Guianas.
Size Can grow up to 20 in(50 cm)
Lifespan Can live 8+ years
Noise High.
Characteristics It has black plumage with a white throat and breast bordered below with a narrow red line. The rump is bright yellow and the crissum is red. The bare skin around the eye is blue. The bill has a yellow tip, upper ridge and base of the upper mandible, and the base of the lower mandible is blue. The rest of the bill is mainly black with the fore front being red.
Interaction/Time Requirements, Diet, Supplies Needed Be sure to secure the cage or aviary. Aviaries are sold ready for home assembly. They don't like to be in crowded spaces and will sometimes be aggressive towards other birds if they don't have enough space. If you plan to house more than one male they need to be apart and not able to contact each other due to their aggressive nature during breeding season. They require a warm habitat for the winter months. Do not allow your birds outdoors until all signs of frost are gone. Space is important and indoor cages should be as large as possible. A large cage is required even if the bird is going to spend lots of time out of its habitat with you. They should only be fed a low iron soft bill food. You need to change food and water twice daily, and clean the cage at least once a day, replacing toys and broken climbing branches.
Other Considerations Feed only soft bill seed mixture or pellets to prevent Iron-storage disease, this is a dietary-induced illness which is almost impossible to cure once symptoms have become apparent.
