Javanese
Origin And History | The breed was developed in North America and its name is derived from the tradition of naming oriental-type cats after south-east Asian places. The Javanese cat is not from Java nor Indonesia. Genetically they are long-haired Oriental. The term "Javanese cat" was coined by a Helen Smith of MerryMews Cattery circa 1950. It is unknown if she had ever traveled to Indonesia. The name is derived from the tradition of using the names of the countries and islands of south-east Asia for Oriental cat breeds. |
Personality | The Javanese Cat has very little problem with moving into a new home. It will adjust fairly well to the changes in its environment. While the Javanese Cat is not a social butterfly when it comes to making new human friends, it is certainly not a hermit either. It will make new human friends when introduced to them. The Javanese Cat is happy with, or without, interaction. This cat breed has no problem patiently waiting for its owner to get some free time to interact with it. Much like the dogs in their household may attempt to bring the Javanese Cat into their home and yield positive results. This cat has little problem sharing its living space with dogs. This cat enjoys being loving. Owners can expect this cat to snuggle up with them after a long day out. Owners will have their hands full with this cat as it loves to play. The Javanese Cat is very playful. The Javanese Cat is a high energy cat breed that loves to run around and have fun. It is noted as an intelligent cat and tends to vocalize, though often for no apparent reason.
