Minskin
Origin And History | The Minskin is a breed of cat derived from crossing the Munchkin with the Sphynx. In 1998 Paul McSorley began the development of the Minskin in Boston, Massachusetts. Just as the Siamese has color restricted to the points/extremities, Paul McSorley envisioned a cat with short legs and fur restricted to the points (fur-points). To accomplish his goal, he crossed is already established Munchkin cats with short legs and fur, with 'fuzzy' Sphynx for the hairless characteristic where fur can occur on the extremities, making for a healthier immune system. He also used his International Award Winning Burmese cats and Devon Rex in the development of his Minskin breeding program. The first cat that met his goal was "TRT I Am Minskin Hear Me Roar" 'Rory' was born in July, 2000. By early 2005 about 50 cats meeting the Minskin vision existed and were registered by The International Cat Association. In 2008 the Minskin became recognized as a Preliminary New Breed and is currently in TICA's program that monitors the development of new breeds. |
Personality | The Minskin Cat really struggles when it enters a new environment. It may take some time to adapt to its new home. This cat breed goes out of its way meet new people. Owners find it very cute that the cat will interrupt whatever it is doing to greet new visitors at the door. The Minskin Cat very rarely seeks interaction. This cat breed is great for cat owners that want an independent cat. Owners who are parents will be thrilled with the way this cat breed interacts with their youngsters. This cat will be very happy in their home. Their owners that also have dogs can expect to see it interacting well with the dogs. The Minskin Cat really loves dogs. This cat breed lives to love. Owners can expect their Minskin Cat to show a lot of affection towards them. Minskin Cats are extremely playful. Owners can expect this cat to be ready to play at almost any moment in the day. Appearance | The Minskin Cat breed is a small sized cat compared to other breeds. It is semi-coby, stocky, and short. This also gives the Minskin Cat a defining difference when compared to other breeds. Because the Minskin Cat breed is a small sized cat breed it often weighs between 4 lbs (1.8 kg) to 8 lbs (3.6 kg). This cat would fit well in a small sized home! The fur (or lack-there-of) of the Minskin Cat is often described as sparse, short, and silky. This is because this Minskin Cat breed has a strong bloodline. Their fur (or skin) may come in colours such as solids, tortoise shell, tabby patterns, and and white colour mix; which can make them very unique among their peers. Most Minskin Cats have a medium length tail, which helps compliment their overall body structure. The Minskin Cat breed has a reputation for having large sized eyes which lead them to be more attractive than other feline breeds. |
Health | This cat breed has less problems than others, but will have the occurrence of health problems on occasion. Overall the Minskin Cat is fairly healthy. Health issues are common among domesticated animals. This cat breed may be susceptible to Fleas, Eye Problems, and Feline Lower Urinary Tract Disease. Allergic reactions are not common, but may occur in people with cat allergies that come near the Minskin Cat breed. |
