Place of Origin and Range | The Black-Necked Garter snake can be found in south eastern and central Arizona, parts of the south western United States, Mexico and Guatemala. |
Description | The western version may attain 107 cm (42 inches) in total length. The snake is coloured dark olive with an orange-yellow stripe that is displayed on the middle of the body from the top while the underside is usually a cream or light shade of grey. The eastern version is smaller than the western, with an average total length of less than 51 cm (20 inches). It displays three light stripes on a dark-coloured body with uniform orange and orange-yellow spreading throughout. |

Accommodation | Found near water in desert scrub, grasslands, chaparral, woodland environments. Plenty of branches for climbing. Leafy plants will provide the required humidity and hides. You will always want to include a large dish for bathing and soaking in to improve shedding. Always include a day basking spot at 80'F(27'C). Along with multiple hides. Minimum 2 x 2 x 4 feet for an adult. |
