Eastern Kingsnake

Place of Origin and Range Found along the eastern coastal plain from New Jersey pine barren to northern Florida and west to Appalachians and south east to Alabama.
Description The colour pattern consists of a glossy black, blue-black or dark brown ground colour overlaid with a series of 23-52 white chain-like rings. King snakes from the Coastal Plain have wider bands, while those found in mountainous areas have thinner bands or may be completely black.
Morph Patterns Available Yes
Adult Size Can grow 4- 6 feet (1.2- 1.8m)
Accommodation A well ventilated rain forest terrarium with lots of branches as thick as the snakes diameter for climbing with typical rainforest settings. High humidity 60-80%, and a large dish for bathing and soaking in to improve shedding. Always include a day basking spot at 80'F(27'C). Along with multiple hiding spots.
Lifespan Can live 15-20 years
Feeding / Diet King snakes use constriction to kill their prey and tend to be opportunistic when it comes to their diet; they will eat other snakes, including venomous snakes. King snakes will also eat lizards, rodents, birds, and eggs. The common king snake is known to be immune to the venom of other snakes and to eat rattlesnakes, but it is not necessarily immune to the venom of snakes from different localities.
Other Considerations Long a favourite among collectors, they do well in captivity, living for up to 25 years or more. Some of the most popular king snakes kept in captivity are California, Brook's, Florida and Mexican black king snakes. Snakes are relatively hardy low maintenance animals when kept in the correct environment, and require little day to day care other than feeding and cleaning out the tank as required. However, like all animals, they can still become sick or injured despite our best intentions to prevent this.
