Pueblan Milk Snake

Place of Origin and Range The Pueblan milk snake is found in southern Puebla, eastern Morelos and northern Oaxaca, Mexico.
Description The Pueblan milk snake's base colour is red with distinct rings or bands of black and whitish-yellow. The Pueblan milk snake has a resemblance to the coral snake and this similarity in colour, known as Batesian mimicry, helps protect the snake from potential predators.
Morph Patterns Available Yes
Adult Size Can grow up to 3 feet (0.9m)
Accommodation Dry savannah or semi-arid grassland. To avoid injuries anchor any rocks in the vivarium before you add the substrate. You will want to include a large dish for bathing and soaking; to improve shedding. Always include a day basking spot at 80'F(27'C). Along with multiple hides this snake likes to hide in termite mounds in the wild.
Minimum 2 x 2 x 4 feet for an adult.
Lifespan Can live 15-20 years
Feeding / Diet Like most snakes Peublan Milk snakes can eat mice, and rats depending on the size of your snake and the availability of feed.
Other Considerations It is commonly bred in captivity and is found in several colour variations. When handled, it discharges a pungent-smelling exudate from its cloaca as a presumed defence mechanism. Snakes are relatively hardy low maintenance animals when kept in the correct environment, and require little day to day care other than feeding and cleaning out the tank as required. However, like all animals, they can still become sick or injured despite our best intentions to prevent this.
