Place of Origin and Range | It is indigenous to Southern Africa, where it typically occurs in coastal thicket and leaf litter along the South African coast - from Cape Town, eastwards along the coast as far as Mozambique. A few tiny isolated populations also occur in moist mountainous areas further inland. |
Description | This small, elegant skink has a shiny, brightly striped body. Males change colour in the breeding season, developing bright red stripes on their flanks. |
Morph Patterns Available | Yes |
Adult Size | Can grow up to 10 in( 25 cm ) |
Accommodation | Variable as long as the substrate is not moist, and a bowl of water is readily available. They prefer high temperatures, up to 105–110 °F (41–43 °C) at their basking spot and 80 °F (27 °C) elsewhere in their habitat during the day. |
Lifespan | Can live 10+ years |
Feeding / Diet | Some of these lizards eat lots of fruits or vegetables, but most are entirely insectivorous. Like many reptiles, in captivity they must be provided a diet supplemented with extra calcium and a light source with a UVB radiation to reduce the risk of bone disorders. |
